Schools in Rivers State were suppose to resume on the 22nd
of sept but was shifted further to 8th of October due to the ebola
virus. As at 8th of October some public schools were still not on.
some of the teachers were not in school and some parents didn’t take their
children to school. When some of the teachers that were seen in the school
premises were asked why the schools are not functioning, they said they State
Government hasn’t made provision for ebola facilities and inorder to avoid its
spread, they had to shut the schools down until the facilities are brought.

On the other hand, teachers and students in private schools
around the state resumed yesterday. When visited by some media houses, they
found all the ebola preventive facilities like, sanitizers, bucket and water
which some of the students said they washed their hands with. Some of the
private schools even urged their pupils to go to school with their personal
handkerchief.
Yesterday the Commissioner for Health in the state Mr.
Sampson Parker presented the ebola preventive facilities to the state government
which means, schools are suppose to be up and strong today being the 9th
of October 2014.
And a warning has been giving to the teachers in public
schools. Don’t start work until the ebola equipments are put in place in your
school.
