Ongoing Fuel Scarcity in Rivers State

There has been fuel scarcity in Rivers State due to the strike embarked by the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Gas Workers (NUPENG). This strike has been on for some days now and has made things in the city of port Harcourt very expensive.

The state chairman of NUPENG Mr. Godwin Eruba complains that the strike was held due to the fact that federal government has refused to work on the Eleme/Onne road that links to the refinery. He said the road has been bad for a long time now endangering the lives of people using the road especially the tanker drivers and for this reason the strike will be on until the federal government says something about working on the road. He also appealed to the public not to blame the union but to blame the federal government who has refused to work the road after all taxes are being paid to them.

Presently in the city of port Harcourt, the price of fuel in some filling stations has inflated from N97 to N120. Some people are even complaining that the fuel stations don’t attend to cars, they only sell to people with Jerry cans and this is after they must have stood for like 1-2hrs in on the queue. On the other hand, Black market dealers are in business.

Major filling stations at Aba road and Ikwerre road are closed. Some of the stations that has fuel are keeping theirs without selling (me I wonder why). Also transport fares in some areas have increased due to the fuel scarcity.

It is well.
